Chai: Kit Assembly
Chai for Charity's mission is to inspire people to give in creative ways; Chai: Kit Assembly is designed to inspire families to give their time so that we can collectively assemble 2,000 kits together. The kits are then donated to a local nonprofit who can get them to folks who need them in our community.
2,000 STEAM Kits for Preschoolers
Did you know that 12% of Colorado children under age 5 live in poverty? And 51% of Colorado families live in a “child care desert.” Black and Hispanic/Latino families are disproportionately represented among those who live in a “child care desert.”
Did you know that 40% of Colorado families qualify for free and reduced lunches at school? Even though CO offers free meals for all, 40% of students may still be missing access to recess snacks that help satiate hunger throughout the school day so that students can focus on learning.
Programs offered by WOW! and Community Food Share offer resources to enable local families to feed their families, and build fine motor, literacy and math skills so they’re more prepared for school.

Join us to assemble 1,000 snack bags or 1,000 STEAM kits to help support local kids in our community. The snack bags will be donated to Community Food Share and offered to local elementary schools for students who could use the support. The STEAM kits will be donated to the Wow! Children's Museum to share with visiting preschoolers to help them build fine motor, and early math and literacy skills.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much does it cost to participate? The event is free. Usually, we ask families to donate to help us buy supplies for the kits, but for our 2024 events, Chai for Charity donors are generously covering all supply costs.
Where should we park? The library has a spacious parking lot.
Is there a minimum age to participate? Donors as young as 18mo have been able to participate in Chai: Assembly events. The activity involves placing STEAM supplies (popsicle sticks, books, dice) or single-serve snacks (granola bars, crackers) in ziploc bags.
What should I expect from the event? We setup an assembly line with a different item at each station, and you take a ziploc bag to each station, add an item and continue down the line until your bag is filled. See photos for more.
Can I bring a friend who hasn't RSVP'd? Unfortunately, no. There is an occupancy limit at the library’s space, and we want to honor our commitment to them. We also have a limited amount of supplies earmarked for those who RSVP.
